Guess who's leaving the ICU today?
He passed his applesauce swallowing test on Monday and is being moved to a rehabilitation center here in the town where we live TODAY!
I am so excited! He has been in the ICU for 36 days today. Not to mention he was about 45 minutes away and had strict visiting hours in the ICU- and now he will be 4 minutes (I clocked it on the way to school this morning) from my house and I can go see him whenever I want! I figure today I will let him get settled in, but I'm going to visit him right after school tomorrow! Yipeee!!!

Lastly....
What could an 8 months pregnant tall dark-haired girl be?
Grandaddy Update
- Tracheotomy in- SUCCESS! (when he came around, Susie told him "Daddy, you've been drunk as a skunk for 3 weeks and mama hasn't said a word!" and he grinned and winked at her. Sense of humor was apparently unharmed during all this madness!)
- Breathing on his own without the machine- SUCCESS!
- Tracheotomy capped off for him to breathe through his trachea and speak- SUCCESS! (first words out of his mouth- "Let's get out of here!")
- Tracheotomy removed 10-23- SUCCESS!
- Applesauce Swallowing test 10/24- FAIL (they say as soon as he can swallow, they will allow him to leave the hospital in Charlotte, and cove to a rehabilitation center closer to home- can't wait!)
- Applesauce Swallowing test sceduled for tomorrow 10-27- ____________ (hopefully success!)
Trick and a Treat
Joe and I are just finishing up a VERY busy weekend. We have both known for a long time that we wanted to be young parents. After all, his mom was married at 18, had him by 23 and my mother was married by 22, had my brother by 23. The way we look at it, we can either have time alone BEFORE the baby is born, or time alone after the baby leaves for college. I, personally, choose to have the time alone after the child leaves, therefore we would have more uninterrupted time and money to do whatever we want (at least, I hope we will have more money then!). I guess we will see what happens in the months to come.

I forgot how awesome Disney princesses are...
Today, the girls took the "little girls" to see Disney on Ice. They all dressed like princesses and were precious!
The show was great and then we bought approximately $500 collectively of Disney crap, then headed to Salsaritas for quesodillas and cheese dip. Ah, what a girl's day. After that, we went back to Stephanie's apartment to watch Noggin and play musical chairs.
Disney on Ice is awesome.
it. is. awesome.

AND...
I wanted to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this time with Grandaddy. Today he went in for the tracheotomy- everything went well. He's still sedated and they say the next couple days are probably going to be rough- probably the worst so far- with him waking up. They're going to wake him up now and start physical therapy. His lungs look good, there is no pneumonia still (thank you, God!) and we're praying it's only better from here on out. I will definitely keep this thing updated. Thanks for the thoughts/prayers and keep them coming for these next few days when he will hopefully be coming around!
FYI.... I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE Halloween

Quin is on his way!
Here are a few pics from Ashley's baby shower this past weekend!
We cannot wait for Karl Joseph Lastname the 5th to arrive!
We had a lot of fun and she got a lot of great stuff. We played a few non-poop, non-big belly related games that were a lot of fun and really sweet. We also had pics of Ashley and her DH Karl as babies and pics of them together over the years hanging from ribbon with little blue clothespins! AND this really awesome picture of Ashley's mom pregnant with Ashley next to a pic of Ashley pregnant with Quin- it was too cute! I haven't uploaded them all yet- I gotta get on that!

James Carter
My granddaddy is basically the coolest, most amazing person I have ever met. Seriously. He is the funniest, wittiest man that I know and is always making someone laugh or telling a corny joke. Since I was old enough to drive, I would go and just hang out at my grandparents' house for hours on end- just hanging out with them. I am 4 years younger than his youngest daughter (I'm the oldest grandchild) so he considers me a daughter (especially after I was adopted by my other aunt and uncle and was therefore away from my dad- loooong story). He tells the most amazing stories from his childhood, time in the marines and most frequently, his marriage with my grandmama. He is so amazing- they have been married for 54 years and he still calls her "my bride"- I can't stress enough how amazing my grandaddy is.Last Thursday, my grandaddy went in for heart surgery and he hasn't woken up yet. They have kept him sedated for a week now and were hoping to take him off the meds on Thursday, but it didn't happen. When they went in to put a stint (shunt? I don't even know) in his heart, they had to go in through his neck. Due to all the swelling, he then couldn't breathe, so he's now got an oxygen tube. So basically, he is just sitting in the hospital, comatose and not even breathing for himself. He is not a healthy man (always ate steak and eggs and smoked for a while) and add that to the fact that he's just old and he is NOT a fast healer.
I have been working and the hospital he is in is about 45 minutes away, so I hadn't been up to see him that first week. I felt so horrible and couldn't even imagine what it would be like if something happened to him and I hadn't been to see him one last time.

first impressions sure are akward...
The absolute luckiest.
I am starting this blog randomly- we'll see if I can keep up with it. I have a tendency to get stage fright when writing these things. Often times I don't have much to talk about.
However, I was pertty awesome at xanga when I was 14, so this should be a breeze.
So we'll see.
