You may have seen where I posted recently about the quilt class I'm taking starting in May. I have this bizarre facination with quilts and a ddep desire to make one -why? I don't know, maybe it's because I know it's something I will probably suck at and I like a challenge. Maybe it's because I love old people and think that it would be cool to have a reason to hang out with more of them. Who knows? I'm pretty sure it's because they're so frickin' beautiful!

I read Cluck Cluck Sew daily (she's who made the two quilts/tops above) and check out the Fresh Modern Quilts flickr group hourly (ehh.. I exaggerate a little). If you have a free 5 minutes (ha!) check out that flickr group- if not, here are a few of my faves:

I have it in my head that after I take that quilting class and sew my first quilt, that I will be able to make a quilt for Noah's big boy bed in his next room. The only problem with this plan is that I SUCK at putting fabrics together. I don't see a print and immediately think "Ooh! That would totally compliment this fabric!" (which I'm pretty sure is basically a requirement for making a quilt) I have to look at what other people have put together and go with that. So that will probably become a problem in the long run quilting-wise. However, this may be my saving grace: Fresh Squeezed Fabric puts together fabrics by collection for you and sells you a bundle of fabric- and not just Amy Butler and Michael Miller (like a lot of shops do!) but of lines and designers I've never heard of! SCORE!
Ok, if you've read all of this instead of just looking at the pretty pictures then rolling out- high-five! Do you have any quilts in your house? Is there a story behind them or did you just buy one (which is what I may end up doing if this class thing doesn't work out the way I planned!)?
BTW, if you're interested at least a little in any of this, check out these two blogs: Diary of a Quilter and Oh, Fransson! . LOVE.

No, you are not the only 25 year old that thinks these are beautiful! (well, I don't technically turn 25 until next month...haha)
I made my first quilt at 17 and it was hand quilted on a big quilt frame. (I'm going to write a blog post about it one day...) I was even in a local quilter's guild during my freshman year in college.
I wouldn't worry too much about complimenting fabrics... thats part of the beauty of quilts... things that you think never match come together on one quilt and are georgous!
Beautiful!!! Love them!
Now...if I could just figure out how to thread a needle??? J/K
But, I did attempt to make Wyatt a jon-jon one time and it turned out about 3 sizes too big!
I came over to your blog from Cluck Cluck Sew since I'm also a young sewer (just had my 26th).. you're totally not crazy! I also love all the color!
HI I came to your blog from Cluck Cluck. I'm 25 too and love quilting! I just started a few months ago. I'm terrible at choosing coordinating fabrics. Fabric kits are my fav! Love Moda precut fabric packages. Anyway good luck! -Michelle
Hey, I came to your blog from CluckCluckSew, too! I am only 26 years young and have made dozens of quilts... and I only started 2.5 years ago! I even teach quilting classes at a local college and I'm usually the youngest one in the room by almost 40 years! My students' jaws drop when I start the class and introduce myself as the instructor! LOL. I love it! :o)
Okay, so I'm not 25 anymore, more like 34, but I started quilting at 24 and I love it. I stopped for awhile, took up cardmaking and scrapbooking, but now have jumped back into quilting. And I love it! The fabrics will just come together, and now the trend seems to be white backgrounds (which I love) and bright squares/pinwheels etc. Good luck at your class!
I am also a 25 year-old obsessed with all things quilty and sewing! Keep us updated on your quilting adventures!
Trust me, you are not the only 20-something who thinks quilting and modern fabrics are awesome! I just turned 26 and I LOVE all these quilty goodness!
I've just come over for a visit from CluckCluckSew. Hope you do get into quilting, it's so much fun and people appreciate them so much as presents! I made one for my neice (who ended up coming out a nephew - oops!) last year and mummy loved it! She used it herself for the last 3 months of pregnancy!
I am also a 20-something (for a few more years) who has become obsessed with cluck-cluck-sew's blog (and others, but she started the obsession). I just sewed my first quilt last month - and I can't wait to start on my toddler twin's new big boy/girl quilts...but I'm struggling in the fabric inspiration department. Do I go kidish or timeless? Anyway - nice to meet you and see your blog. I'll be following your progress :)
Hey, I am from cluckclucksew as well. I had to come check you out here :) I am just turning 30, and have been quilting for about 7 years. I am completely obsessed and love it! So, go you! You will enjoy it I am sure.
There are lots of young quilters out there, I was one of them! I'm 39 now, but have been quilting for 15 years. I used to think that the quilt store ladies were snubbing me because I was young, but now I know they are just grumpy most of the time.
I'm 30, and LOVE quilting too!
No need to be ashamed... there are a lot of us out there. ;)
I'm right there with you - I'm 28 now and started quilting when I was 23. Something about it just fascinated me and I bought and book and am hooked! I'm part of my local quilt guild and it's always great to meet other 20-somethings who are into quilting.
In one of our last quilt guild meetings, one of the girls brought up that same problem of trying to coordinate fabrics. One of the best pieces of advice was to look at the color wheel, pick a color, and then see what colors go with it. Then, when you go to find your fabrics, pick some in the same color families as the colors you've chosen. Good luck! (BTW, I just turned 28 and just started quilting within the last six months. There are lots of us out there!)
I'm 25 and just started quilting! (Ok, maybe 24, but almost 25!) I just did a whole series of posts about learning to quilt. They might help you out! Cheers!

I just came from Cluck Cluck Sew. I am only 24 and I have been quilting for the last 3 years. So you are certainly not alone! I do sometimes feel like the only sewing blogger who doesn't have a baby though! But I like sewing baby quilts for my friends and family. I love your header and will absolutely be stopping by again to see your quilting progress. Also thanks for the hint about the modern quilts flikr group, I just finished a quilt but those ones make me want to start another tight this second!
I came from Cluck Cluck Sew and join the rest of these ladies in saying you're not crazy! I'm 30 (still young, right?) and love making quilts. There are so many cool modern fabric designers right now, so you can make quilts that are young and fun.
I'm with you about not feeling confident in matching up colors and fabrics, but there are ways to make it easier. Sew, Mama, Sew often has fat quarter pack designers, and people who know what they're doing select fabrics that go together. Elizabeth at Oh, Fransson! has been designing bundles for Fabric Worm too, so you can buy a stack of fat quarters that she's selected.
Just be careful! You'll be addicted before you know it :)
coming over from cluck cluck sew.
you are SO not alone.
trust me.
i'm a 20-something quilter and i think it's the best thing on the planet.
{you know next to those other best things like god, family, oreos & milk etc.}
stop over sometime & say hi.
:D
Check out Amanda Jean whose blog is crazymomquilts (if you haven't seen it already!). If you like Cluck, and Oh Fransson, you'll freak over Amanda Jean.
I learned to quilt when I was 29 and stuck in a foreign country with no job while my husband was traveling. Boredom makes you do crazy things! I have loved it ever since!
Welcome to the crazy world of fabric love,
Chris

Hi, I'm coming via Cluck Cluck Sew, too... I'm 29 and have been quilting for 4 years. It is absolutely hands down my favorite thing to do! Definitely take a class, you will feel more confident going into it... and then you'll be addicted like the rest of us, I promise! Good luck and happy quilting!
G'day, I found your blog from Cluck cluck sew. Congrats! No, You are not the only youngin to like quilting but I do ask myself the exact same questions sometimes! My fella says that I go to grandma lessons when I head off to my quilting class! Don't stress about fabric combinations, There are no right or wrong choices. If you like the way it looks together before you sew it, chances are that you will like them after you sew them! Good luck, You will be fine I'm sure and you will be hooked!!!

I found you 'cause I also read Cluck, Cluck, Sew and guess what? I'm also 25! Coworkers call me grandma even though I'm not married and don't have kids... Looks like from all your comment love you're not such a rare duck after all. Hooray for US!!!
Heya! You're not the only 25 year old out there quilting (or wanting to attempt it..). I'm 25, almost 26 *gasp!* and I've been quilting for quilt a while (made my first when I was....12). Just enjoy the journey- and quite a journey it will be!! And keep checking those blogs, take in all the inspiration you can and once you get going, run with it!
Always,
Kat
28 and LOVING quilts...have never made one myself, but I have quite the collection of photos, fabrics, instructions....maybe one day :)
I just came over from Cluckclucksew and really, there are a lot of younger people that love quilts (looking at them, making them until there is no place to put them anymore...). I am 26 and it is even weirder (is that a word?) for me because I live in Germany and there is absolutely NO tradition for quilting here. My Mom thinks I am crazy, my friends are a bit freaked out by my need to make quilts and my boyfriend thinks that I could spend my time more wisely on something else. That might be true but I just love the color, the coming together of fabric that was originally not matching and dreaming of designs (or well, printing out the directions from quilt sites):)
Just don't worry too much about picking out your fabric. If it looks great to you then it will look great in your quilt. And if you can't decide which fabric to pick then it might be that you just haven't come to right one yet. I am always looking at the blogs of the fabric designer and when they present a new line (and mostly on sewn objects) which I love I go ahead and buy it.
Re: putting fabrics together. You'll be surprised how easy it is. I am working on my first quilt now because i like you am infatuated with it--because i want a house of handmade goods and i hate shopping at the uninspiring mainstream stores. :o)
Last year, my daughter and i were looking for material to make sets of napkins for teacher's gifts. I figured i could sew napkins. We kept finding the cutest chicken themed material. Of course, all from different lines, so "matching" was implied. When i gathered it all together, i realised that i need to break it up A LOT. One more trip to the fabric store to grab just a couple different styles of fabrics really pulled it all together. And now i have enough to make a twin sized chicken quilt for her "young lady" bed. :o)
Good luck to you on your quilting endeavours!! I hope you class goes really well!
Sincerely,
Whit
I am so serious, I just said this same sort of thing to my hubby last night! Why dont I know another 24 year old quilter?
I found your blog from Cluck Cluck Sew, and love it, and your etsy is so cute!!!
Nope, you're not the only young'un out there! Although I speak as one soon to depart for the land of the 30-somethings, eek!
Good luck on your quilt class! I only started quilting last year and it's dead easy, honest! I'm sure you'll pick it up no problem and be able to make a cool quilt for your son!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the fourth one! I want it!
Aww. You just totally made my day. Thanks for the love. :)
Enjoy that quilt class! I love classes - I always learn something and I'm always inspired by the colors everyone chooses. Totally broadens my perspective.
I've been quilting since I was in my 20's and I still feel a bit like a granny. The amazing world of quilting bloggers has helped me come out of the closet though. Glad you're joining the cause! :)
I am not 25 anymore (31 now), but I just recently got interested in quilting as well...all due to discovering the Fresh Modern quilts group! :) I am not a big fan of older, reproduction-style quilts, but the modern ones really get my creative juices flowing!
